In this work, the gallery space is a site of fragmentation/relocation/rebuilding for Viet Namese refugee in America. The garden is a metaphor for controlled nature, settlement. Plexi-glass enclosures reference gardens/homes/communities/cities, similar yet separate from oneanother. These hang opposite of projected images of Viet Nam. Idyllic scenes speak of the refugee's yearning and romaticization of the homeland. A number of stories/memories are collected through conversations with refugees and are retold via audio tape in the gallery. These disembodied voices recall a longing for a place to call home.
