Fishing For Resolution (USS Maddox), March 2003. Sculpture for: "Williamsburg Bridges Viet Nam", at The Williamsburg Art and Historical Society, Brooklyn, NY. Aluminum foil, clear tape and carved soap. 12'W x 15'Lx 6"H.
This work is a representation of a mountain range by the edge
of the ocean. The landscape is taken from the geography of the Tonkin Gulf,
in North Vietnam. The incident where this work comes from is the attack on
the U.S.S. Maddox from Vietnamese patrol boats. The attacks were questionable
yet they allow the passage of the Tonkin Gulf resolution, marking the beginning
of American military involvement in Vietnam for 11 years.
